Apple board rejects proposal to end DEI programs

Apple’s board of directors has rejected a proposal to eliminate the company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, as noted in a recent proxy filing.

The proposal was submitted by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank, which argued that DEI programs might expose companies to legal risks.

The think tank referenced the United States Supreme Court’s recent ruling against race-based affirmative action in colleges as a reason for its proposal.

It also highlighted similar reductions in DEI programs by other companies, including Meta and Amazon.

In its filing, Apple described the proposal as “unnecessary,” citing its current legal compliance program that the company claims reduces any legal risks associated with its DEI initiatives.

The board criticized the proposal for attempting to interfere with Apple’s internal policies and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion.
