Apollo, Blackstone finance $35b Anthropic AI expansion
Apollo and Blackstone are financing a US$35 billion expansion of AI computing capacity for Anthropic with Broadcom’s custom chips and networking.
The companies said an initial 1 gigawatt of capacity will be deployed at Fluidstack-operated sites starting in mid-2026. Fluidstack, a UK-based cloud computing company, will provide the physical data center infrastructure.
The project plans to provide more than 20 gigawatts of computing capacity for AI labs, including OpenAI, through 2028.
The deal reflects rising private funding for AI infrastructure as companies face shortages of expensive, supply-constrained computing capacity.
In October, Meta struck a US$27 billion financing deal with Blue Owl Capital for its largest data center project.
The partnership also helps Broadcom grow its AI business as tech companies seek alternatives to Nvidia with custom chips.
Broadcom said the effort aims to expand deployment of custom AI chips and computing systems while reducing the cost and power needed to train AI models.
