Anthropic weighs raise at near $1t valuation

Anthropic is considering raising tens of billions of dollars this summer to expand its computing capacity, the Financial Times reported.

The deal could value the AI company at close to US$1 trillion.

If the fundraising goes ahead at that level, Anthropic would be valued above rival OpenAI.

On April, Anthropic’s secondary-market valuation has climbed to about US$1 trillion on Forge Global, above OpenAI’s roughly US$880 billion on the same platform.

The jump follows Anthropic’s January 2026 funding round at US$380 billion led by GIC and Coatue, while some recent secondary offers valued the company between US$960 billion and US$1.15 trillion.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Anthropic’s valuation is backed by fast revenue growth

  • A potential valuation near US$1 trillion lines up with a steep rise in revenue. Anthropic said its annualized revenue pace rose from US$9 billion at the end of 2025 to more than US$30 billion by early April 2026 1.
  • Business demand is climbing. The number of customers spending more than US$1 million a year grew from 500 in February to 1,000 by early April 2026 1.
  • Claude Code plays a large role in that growth. Anthropic said business subscriptions to its AI coding assistant quadrupled since the start of 2026 2.

The AI race is changing cloud plans and software spending

  • The planned fundraising would help pay for the computing capacity needed to train and run advanced AI models.
  • Anthropic already has an agreement with Google and Broadcom, a chip designer. About 3.5 gigawatts of Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) compute is expected to start coming online in 2027 1.
  • Analysts warn that spending on platforms such as Anthropic and OpenAI is taking money away from other software budgets 1.
  • That shift could leave more corporate information technology spending with a small group of AI labs and the biggest cloud providers 1.
