Anthropic, the San Francisco-based AI startup behind the Claude model, will open a Bengaluru office in 2026 and expand its local team as part of its India growth plans.

The company, valued at US$183 billion after a US$13 billion funding round in September, plans to work with Indian conglomerates, healthcare institutions, educational organizations, and startup accelerators to develop AI applications for the local market.

India is Anthropic’s second-largest market with 7.2% of total Claude usage, behind the US at 21.6%.

The company is investing in Indic language capabilities, improving Hindi support, and training Claude on more regional languages.

Anthropic also seeks partners to develop sovereign AI tools aligned with Indian regulations and will hire across engineering, sales, finance, and support roles, including a head for its India operations.
