Anthropic targets finance sector with new Claude AI tools

Anthropic, an AI startup, has introduced a new software service package for financial professionals.

Named Claude for Financial Services, the offering aims to assist analysts with tasks including market research, due diligence, and investment decision-making.

The tool combines Claude’s AI with financial data from FactSet, PitchBook, and Morningstar, available to subscribers of those services.

The company said that the tools will support investment memos, portfolio analysis, and financial modeling.

Clients like Bridgewater Associates, AIG, and Norges Bank are already using Claude, and Anthropic says it won’t use customer data for AI training.

The launch follows moves by OpenAI and Perplexity to enter financial services, as Anthropic’s annualized revenue rises from US$3b to US$4b.

Anthropic also plans to name Paul Smith, formerly of ServiceNow, as its first chief commercial officer to strengthen industry reach.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Financial services represents AI’s highest-value early market opportunity

The rush by Anthropic, OpenAI, and Perplexity to target financial analysts follows clear economic incentives: McKinsey estimates generative AI could generate $200-$340 billion in annual value for the banking sector alone 1.

Yet despite this massive opportunity, actual adoption has been slower than predicted, with only 4% of finance professionals currently using AI systems despite 71% believing they’ll adopt the technology by decade’s end 2.

Anthropic’s integration with established financial data providers like FactSet and Morningstar directly addresses a key adoption barrier: connecting powerful AI capabilities with trusted, industry-standard data sources.

This approach targets the 77% of organizations reporting data quality issues as their primary AI challenge, particularly critical in finance where errors can have severe consequences 3.

The focus on finance also makes strategic sense as financial institutions adopting AI reported 19% revenue growth compared to 12% for followers and a 10% decline for non-adopters 4.

2️⃣ Enterprise AI competition shifts from general capabilities to industry-specific solutions
