Anthropic said on June 12 that the US government had ordered it to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals over national security concerns.

To comply, the company disabled both models for all customers while it worked to restore access.

The two systems are Anthropic models, described as configurations of a new large language model. Anthropic said they could work autonomously for longer than earlier Claude models.

Fable 5 is also available through Amazon Bedrock, a cloud service used by developers and businesses to access AI models.

Anthropic said the government gave no specific details about its concern. The company said it believed there was a “misunderstanding” and was working to restore access as soon as possible.
