Anthropic could spend $750b on computing power: report
Anthropic, the US-based developer of Claude, could spend US$750 billion on computing power in the coming years as it prepares for an initial public offering, according to a draft prospectus.
The draft showed a US$80.7 billion net loss in the first half of 2026. Most of that came from accounting charges tied to changes in the value of convertible notes and other financial instruments.
Anthropic spent nearly US$9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the period. It also had about US$450 billion in mostly non-cancellable computing agreements over seven to 10 years.
Anthropic told investors it reached adjusted profitability in the third quarter. Marketing for the IPO could begin as soon as the week of November 9.
OpenAI is reportedly targeting around US$600 billion in similar spending by 2030.
Google’s investment in Anthropic drew a UK probe. The Federal Trade Commission launched an inquiry into generative AI investments and partnerships in 2024.
