Anthropic seeks IPO as AI spending surges
Anthropic said it has confidentially filed for a US initial public offering as it seeks more capital to cover the high cost of training AI models and serving inference, co-founder Daniela Amodei said.
The filing follows a recent US$65 billion private fundraise at a US$965 billion post-money valuation.
Anthropic said its annualized revenue reached US$47 billion in May, up from about US$9 billion at the end of 2025.
In US listings, a confidential draft registration statement can remain nonpublic until the issuer makes a public filing at least 15 days before a roadshow or requested effective date.
That suggests Anthropic’s initial public offering preparations are advanced, though the timing could still change.
Amodei said Anthropic is not building its own data centers and would rather avoid overextending on compute capacity.
The company recently agreed to buy processing power from xAI in a deal later disclosed in SpaceX’s S-1 filing at US$1.25 billion a month.
Investor appetite for capital-intensive AI listings has been mixed. CoreWeave priced its initial public offering at US$40 a share after selling 23.5% less stock than originally planned.
