Anthropic president says high AI costs drive IPO plans

Anthropic PBC co-founder and President Daniela Amodei said the rising cost of developing AI models is pushing companies like Anthropic to seek funding from public markets.

Her comments came days after the Claude developer confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO).

At Bloomberg Tech in San Francisco, Amodei said public markets suited AI companies because training models requires large amounts of capital.

The filing gives Anthropic the option to go public after Securities and Exchange Commission review, but it does not set a timetable.

The company said the number of shares and price had not been set, and a public prospectus must reach investors at least 15 days before any roadshow.

In its latest funding update, Anthropic said it raised US$30 billion in February at a US$380 billion post-money valuation, and reported a US$14 billion revenue run rate.
