Anthropic opposes US ban on Google’s AI investments

Anthropic has asked a federal court to dismiss a US government proposal that seeks to restrict Google from investing in AI companies.

The proposal is part of efforts to curb Google’s monopolization of the online search market, as determined by a federal judge last year.

The Justice Department and several states have recommended measures such as the forced sale of Google’s Chrome browser and a ban on investments in firms managing consumer search data, including AI products.

Anthropic, which has received around US$3 billion in funding from Google, argues that these restrictions could harm competition while benefiting larger rivals like OpenAI, Meta, and DeepMind.

In its legal filing, the San Francisco-based AI startup, known for its Claude language models, claims the proposal would impede its progress in the industry.
