Anthropic has launched Cowork, a new feature for its Claude AI platform, available as a research preview to Claude Max subscribers on macOS.

The US-based AI company said Cowork enables users to give Claude access to a chosen folder on their computer, allowing the AI to read, edit, or create files.

Tasks range from organizing downloads and generating spreadsheets to drafting documents from notes.

Unlike standard chat interactions, Cowork lets Claude execute tasks with more autonomy, while keeping users informed and requiring approval for significant actions.

Users can control which folders and connectors Claude can access, but the company warns that clear instructions are needed to avoid unintended file deletions.
