Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5 at 75% lower cost
Anthropic has launched Claude Haiku 5.5 on the Claude Platform and through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure for high-volume tasks such as summaries, database queries, and classification.
The company said Haiku 5.5 costs about 75% less to run on average than Haiku 4.5.
Haiku 5.5 is the first Haiku model with an adjustable effort setting, which lets users trade off cost and capability. Reviewed excerpts from the documentation did not clarify whether the setting changes reasoning depth, latency, or token usage.
Anthropic also halved cache-read prices for Sonnet 5.5, which it said cuts costs on most agentic tasks by about 20%.
This week, Anthropic plans to roll out monthly application programming interface credits of $100 for Max 5x users and $200 for Max 20x users. Team subscribers will get up to $500 in pooled credits across users.
The company is also updating its Python and TypeScript software development kits for computer and browser use in beta.
Claude models were introduced in Microsoft Foundry on Azure in November 2025, so the Haiku 5.5 launch expands an existing distribution channel.
