🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Anthropic’s valuation rise rests on a strong but narrow coding market
- Funding talks put Anthropic near US$900 billion, far above its earlier valuation 1, 2.
- Claude Code helped the company reach 42% of the code generation market. OpenAI holds 21% 3.
- That lead also brings concentration risk. Two large customers account for nearly a quarter of income 3.
- Anthropic also needs capital for computing power tied to specialized models such as Claude Mythos Preview, an AI model with advanced cybersecurity capabilities 4.
Enterprise AI makes its money by taking on tasks
- Among Anthropic’s highest-paying business customers, usage looks less like collaboration and more like AI handling work on its own 5.
- 77% of enterprise API (application programming interface) traffic fits automation patterns. 12% fits augmentation or collaborative work 5.
- Foundation models make money first by taking over specific workflows. Early commercial impact is likely to stay focused in professions with highly automatable tasks 5.
