Anthropic faces AI spending scrutiny before IPO
Anthropic is facing growing scrutiny over enterprise AI spending as the company moves toward initial public offering. has filed confidentially for an initial public offering.
The AI company has confidentially filed for an IPO, but questions remain over whether businesses are seeing enough returns from costly AI tools. Because enterprise customers account for significant share on Anthropic’s revenue, any slowdown in spending could affect growth as the company prepares to go public.
Bain said a survey of nearly 1,000 companies found 40% reported AI cost savings below 10%. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also said concern over AI costs is “the most fair criticism of AI so far.”
An early Anthropic investor said companies are starting to scrutinize spending on Claude, Anthropic’s flagship AI model. At the same time Ramp’s AI Index showed Anthropic surpassing OpenAI in business adoption in April, although Ramp noted its data may undercount free tools and personal accounts.
Anthropic said in February 2026 it raised US$30 billion at a US$380 billion post-money valuation.
