Anthropic eyes own data centers with Google support
Anthropic plans to lease and manage its own US data centers according to a June 11 report.
The company has also discussed having Google provide a financial guarantee for some lease payments.
The report said Anthropic has signed more than a dozen preliminary agreements totaling more than 1 gigawatt of capacity.
The buildout would be sizable. Deloitte said the largest completed US hyperscaler data centers draw under 500 megawatts. Some planned projects can reach 2 gigawatts.
The move aligns with a wider shift among frontier AI companies toward dedicated infrastructure. OpenAI is reportedly in talks around a 10-gigawatt campus in Ohio under a long-term lease.
Power and grid capacity remain main constraints on US data center buildouts, and some interconnection requests face waits of up to seven years.
The expansion would give Anthropic more control over computing capacity for its Claude models.
It is also follows the company’s confidential filing for a US initial public offering earlier this month.
