Anthropic is in talks to buy Decart AI, an Israeli startup that develops software to cut AI training and inference costs, for about US$6 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.

The deal could still fall through, but if completed, it would be Anthropic’s largest known acquisition.

Decart’s team is expected to join Anthropic’s inference and performance organization, the people said.

Decart’s core product is DOS, an optimisation stack designed to help AI models run faster and more cheaply across Nvidia, Amazon Web Services Trainium, and Google tensor processing unit hardware.

Its software can reduce training costs by helping chips work more efficiently.

Decart said its May series B brought total funding to more than US$450 million.

The round was led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, and Adobe Ventures participating.

Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Zeev Ventures also participated.

Anthropic had filed confidentially with the US Securities and Exchange Commission and could go public as soon as October, after separately saying it would spend US$50 billion on AI data centers in Texas and New York.
