Anthropic CEO meets with Trump officials on AI concerns

White House staff and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met at the White House to discuss cooperation on cybersecurity, AI safety, and rules for scaling AI, according to statements from both sides.

The meeting was also reported to include Susie Wiles, President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The talks come as officials in the US, Canada, and Britain and banking leaders review risks tied to Anthropic’s Mythos model, which is being tested with selected firms and could make it easier to find and exploit software vulnerabilities.

The meeting follows a clash in which the Pentagon restricted Anthropic’s tools after the company refused to remove limits on autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance, and Anthropic sued in March over the designation.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Mythos could raise the bar for AI-driven cyberattack capability

  • Mythos Preview is a general-purpose frontier AI model that Anthropic has not released publicly. 1
  • It can link multiple software vulnerabilities into complex exploits without human help, work that once depended on scarce, highly specialized expertise. 1
  • During testing, it found thousands of previously unknown vulnerabilities, including a 27-year-old flaw in a heavily hardened operating system, and it did so without human steering. 1
  • Use is limited to about 50 organizations through Project Glasswing, a controlled testing program. 1

Faster exploitation cycles strain security programs and fuel governance sales

  • Models in the Mythos class could shrink the gap between finding a vulnerability and weaponizing it, and one dashboard cited by Bishop Fox, a cybersecurity company, puts the median window at under four hours in 2024, down from 771 days in 2018. 1
  • Annual or quarterly penetration tests may miss too much under this tempo, which strengthens the case for continuous validation and monitoring. 1
  • Vendors also tie AI governance tools to the European Union’s AI Act next phase, which takes effect Aug. 2, 2026, and includes penalties of up to 3% of global revenue. 2
