Anthropic CEO criticizes US move to allow AI chip sales to China
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei criticized the Trump administration’s decision to permit AI chip sales to China, comparing it to “selling nuclear weapons to North Korea.”
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he expressed concerns that such exports could help China’s AI development, which he said is behind the US in chip manufacturing.
Amodei highlighted risks of advanced AI models falling under the control of one country, describing China as “a nation of geniuses in data centers.”
The Trump administration has revised export policies, and recent statements suggest some chip sales to China may still proceed.
Industry and political figures remain divided, with some lawmakers pushing for restrictions on sensitive US technology, while others support easing export controls.
