Anthropic brings Mythos AI to UK, Europe banks
Anthropic plans to give European and UK banks access to its Mythos AI model, as lenders race to test the technology after an initial rollout to some US banks.
The rollout will include security checks. JPMorgan Chase is the only bank Anthropic has publicly confirmed as having access, while Bank of America has also tested the model internally.
Regulators and policymakers raised concerns about the model’s risks to banks and legacy systems, while some officials argue broader access is needed to ensure fair competition.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Mythos pushed the industry to respond
- Anthropic’s Mythos sits within Project Glasswing, a program meant to protect important software by giving defenders early access to Claude Mythos Preview, Anthropic’s newest AI model 1.
- Early partners include JPMorgan Chase, Apple, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Google and Microsoft are also involved, which gives the effort broad reach 1.
- Anthropic says Claude Mythos Preview has found thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities, or previously unknown software flaws. That list includes a 27-year-old bug in the OpenBSD operating system, a security-focused open-source software platform 2.
- US Treasury and Federal Reserve officials held a meeting and urged bank executives to treat the model as a real security tool and use it to find flaws in their own systems 3.
AI oversight and cybersecurity are entering a new phase
- Mythos rattled investors. Shares of cybersecurity vendors including CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks dropped 5% to 11% after details about the model came out 2.
- The limited release stirred concern in Europe about an uneven market. Broader access could help level the field, said Joachim Nagel, president of the Deutsche Bundesbank 4.
- Resistance to a tightly controlled launch may shape how future dual-use AI reaches the market. It could bring more pressure for access rules and outside oversight 4.
- That leaves Mythos as an active test case for dual-use AI, or systems that can serve both defense and attack 5.
