Ant International, UBS partner on blockchain-based payment solutions
UBS and Ant International have signed a memorandum of understanding to work on blockchain-based tokenized deposits for global payment settlement and liquidity management.
Ant International, a digital payments and fintech company, will use UBS Digital Cash—a blockchain platform piloted in 2024—to support its treasury operations.
The partnership aims to enable real-time, multi-currency fund transfers between Ant International entities, and improve cross-border payment solutions for UBS clients.
Both firms will also explore joint innovations using Ant’s Whale platform, an internal treasury management tool based on blockchain.
The agreement was formalized at UBS’s office in Singapore.

UBS Group joined Guardian trials 1. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) leaves the chain, supported currencies, and volumes undisclosed. No MAS approval or license is public.
- Guardian’s FX workstream built documentation plus specs with risk frameworks for tokenized bank liabilities on shared ledgers (blockchains or distributed ledgers that multiple institutions can access and update) with BNY Mellon, HSBC, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) 2. It pegs a 12.5% drop in cross-border costs that could save businesses over $50 billion by 2030 if standards spread, with 24/7 real-time settlement in scope 2.
- DBS Bank, OCBC, and Ant International are shaping frameworks for open interoperable digital asset networks with cross-ledger integration (the ability for different blockchains to transact with each other) 1. These guides cover tokenization across asset classes and give vendors clear targets 1.
- Ant International says its Whale platform processes over a third of transactions on chain and supports real-time multi-currency clearing and settlement 2. The FX report presses for shared industry frameworks before adoption can scale 2. Treasury middleware vendors, software that link corporate treasury systems to banks plus payment networks, should focus on Guardian-aligned institutions in Singapore with pilots and some live implementations 1. These groups are closer to launching tokenized bank liability rails for cross-border liquidity management 1.
