Ant International has joined Google as a launch partner to develop the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), a new framework for AI-driven payments.

Ant International, a digital payments and fintech firm based in Singapore, is contributing its experience in alternative payment methods and digital wallets to the project.

AP2 is designed to help AI agents conduct transactions on behalf of users, addressing challenges around user authorization, verification, and interoperability between agents.

The protocol aims to make user intent verifiable, ensure traceability of transactions, and clarify accountability throughout the payment process.

Ant International said it is working on real-world uses for AP2, including in its AI-powered travel tool Alipay+ Voyager, which will allow AI agents to book and pay for ride-hailing services.

The company’s involvement in AP2 builds on its partnership with Google Cloud, following the recent introduction of its Alipay+ GenAI Cockpit and an agentic payment solution using its Model Context Protocol.
