Ant International, AlipayHK launch digital wallet partnership
Ant International, together with Hong Kong-based AlipayHK and Malaysia’s TNG eWallet, is initiating the Digital Wallet Guardian Partnership to enhance payment security in Asia using AI-powered solutions.
The initiative aims to develop risk management technologies, share best practices, and promote awareness campaigns targeting fraud and account takeovers.
Participants are scheduled to adopt the Alipay+ EasySafePay 360 solution, which uses AI and privacy-preserving computing to identify and block suspicious activity in real time.
According to the companies, trial deployments of EasySafePay showed a 90% reduction in account takeover risk.
Asia-Pacific accounts for nearly two-thirds of global digital wallet spending, but also sees a high rate of payment fraud, with 15% of wallet accounts compromised in 2023 and a 28% rise in account takeover cases.
The partnership also offers a money-back guarantee system for unauthorized transactions, and a user portal for faster dispute resolution.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Asia’s digital payment dominance creates proportional fraud exposure requiring industry collaboration
- The Asia Pacific region accounts for nearly two-thirds of global digital wallet spending at $9.8 trillion, but this leadership position comes with a significant security cost. 42% of all global fraud cases now originate from the region1.
- The scale of vulnerability is striking: 15% of wallet accounts were compromised in 2023, with account takeover frauds specifically rising by 28%1.
- This pattern mirrors challenges seen in other major digital payment markets, where convenience and adoption rates often outpace security infrastructure development.
- The partnership approach taken by Ant International, AlipayHK, and TNG eWallet reflects an industry recognition that individual companies cannot effectively combat cross-border fraud networks alone, especially when Alipay+ connects over 100 million merchants across 36 different e-wallet systems1.
AI emerges as critical defense against accelerating mobile payment fraud
- Mobile device fraud has surged dramatically, increasing from 47% to 61% of total fraud cases in 2023, making AI-powered detection systems increasingly essential2.
- The financial services sector’s response has been substantial—AI investment is projected to grow from $35 billion in 2023 to $97 billion by 2027, driven largely by fraud prevention needs3.
- Real-world fraud examples demonstrate the stakes: a Miami gang used stolen credit cards through Apple Pay to generate over $2 million in fraudulent purchases, while another group exploited JPMorgan cards from the dark web for $600,000 in luxury goods4.
- Ant International’s EasySafePay 360 solution, which achieved a 90% reduction in account takeover risk during trials, represents the kind of AI breakthrough needed to match the sophistication of modern fraud networks1.
- The effectiveness stems from real-time analysis capabilities that can process multiple data sources simultaneously—a level of speed and complexity that traditional rule-based systems cannot match against today’s fraud tactics.
