Ant Group said on July 8 that it had completed a strategic investment in Boohee Health, a China-based weight management platform, taking a stake of more than 28% to become its largest external shareholder.

The investment will support expanded cooperation on AI-powered health services cooperation through Ant’s AQ app.

Boohee founder and chief executive Ma Haihua remains the company’s largest overall shareholder.

Founded in 2008, Boohee said it has served more than 200 million registered users and over 30 million annual active users.

Before Ant’s investment, it had raised five rounds through series D while building services including calorie tracking, counseling, ecommerce, subscription nutrition, and connected devices.

Ant said AQ, launched in June 2025, has more than 100 million users and handles over 10 million health-related queries a day.

The deal comes as China has launched a national weight management campaign and expanded obesity-management services.

Any deeper AI health integration will still depend on rules requiring separate consent for sensitive health data and restricting online initial diagnoses.
