Animoca Brands pauses Currenc merger, delays IPO plans
Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based digital asset investment company, and Currenc Group Inc (CURR) have suspended talks on a proposed reverse merger that would have given Animoca a Nasdaq listing, saying the timeframe to complete the deal did not align with both companies’ goals.
Animoca said on September 22 the companies paused the deal after talks began in late 2025.
The shelved transaction would have advanced Animoca’s previously reported plan to list in the US through a reverse merger instead of a traditional initial public offering.
Animoca said it remains committed to pursuing a listing on a major public exchange.
The company has remained private since it was removed from the Australian Securities Exchange official list on March 9, 2020.
It also raised US$110 million in 2022 from investors including Temasek, Boyu Capital, and GGV Capital.
Currenc shares closed at US$3.23 on September 21, up 1.25% in regular trading and down 0.93% in after-hours trading.
