AMD plans sharp 2027 chip supply increase for AI

AMD plans to sharply increase chip supply in 2027 to meet rising AI demand, chief executive Lisa Su said in Taipei on October 6, as the US chip designer works with Asian partners to expand production.

Su said one aim of the trip was to ensure AMD’s supply chain could increase central processing unit and graphics processing unit output.

She had met Foxconn, the Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer that also provides AI server and data-center systems, and was due to meet TSMC.

Su also said AMD was working with memory suppliers ahead of a planned visit to South Korea later that day.

Asked whether TSMC had discussed a potential Texas investment with AMD, Su did not answer directly.

She said AMD needs more advanced wafer capacity and is planning three to five years ahead.

TSMC was evaluating a potential investment in Texas last week.
