AMD to invest $1b in Meta as AI chip partnership grows

AMD, a US chipmaker, and Meta said they expanded their partnership. AMD’s Helios rackscale systems are already running at Meta, and AMD plans to invest US$1 billion in Meta’s equity offering.

The companies said AMD’s EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs already support parts of Meta’s infrastructure and AI workloads, so the deal expands an existing supplier relationship.

Meta’s equity offering includes depositary shares representing series A mandatory convertible preferred stock and Class A common stock tied to forward sale agreements.

The agreement comes as Meta said annual capital expenditures would rise amid its AI infrastructure buildout, with total capital spending forecast at US$130 billion to US$145 billion.
