AMD crosses $1t market value as AI demand lifts shares
Advanced Micro Devices, a US chip designer based in Santa Clara, California, briefly topped a US$1 trillion market value on September 21 after its stock rose to a record US$613.92.
It became the fourth US chipmaker to cross the threshold, after Nvidia, Broadcom, and Micron.
The move reflects investor bets that AMD’s expanding role in AI computing will strengthen its position against Nvidia.
AMD has moved beyond selling individual chips to offering complete server systems that combine processors, networking gear, and other hardware.
Demand for central processing units used alongside graphics processing units in inference servers has also helped AMD gain share from Intel.
AMD’s server CPU momentum has been measurable, reaching 46% of server x86 CPU revenue share, based on Mercury Research data.
Other chip stocks also rose, with Intel and Qualcomm gaining, while the Philadelphia semiconductor index hit a one-month high.
