Amazon in talks to buy AI startup Decart for $7b

Amazon is in talks to buy Decart, an AI startup backed by Nvidia, for about US$7 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.

Decart develops AI models for video editing and simulated environments. It was valued at nearly US$4 billion in May, according to PitchBook data.

Anthropic decided last month not to pursue an acquisition after due diligence. It had explored a potential US$6 billion deal in August.

Decart raised US$300 million in May in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.

The company’s Lucy model edits live video in real time. Its Oasis model generates simulated environments to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems, a possible fit with Amazon’s Zoox robotaxi business, whose system must predict everything.
