Amazon scraps Dublin plant, cuts jobs over power shortage
Amazon has canceled plans to build a €300 million (US$326 million) industrial facility in Ballycoolin, northwest Dublin, due to difficulties in securing an electricity supply.
The project, proposed by Amazon Web Services (AWS), was intended for producing high-tech server racks and was expected to create over 500 jobs.
The facility was designated as a server recycling plant, not a data center, and had received planning permission from Fingal County Council in 2022.
However, ESB Networks informed AWS that it could not provide an electricity connection within the necessary timeframe due to limitations in the area’s power network.
AWS expressed disappointment over the cancellation but indicated a willingness to consider future investments in Ireland if conditions improve.
