Amazon has resumed its Prime Air drone deliveries in Texas and Arizona after a two-month suspension.

Operations in College Station, Texas, and Tolleson, Arizona, were paused in January due to issues with the drones’ altitude sensors caused by dusty conditions.

Although no safety incidents occurred, Amazon halted the service to implement a software update, which has now been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The company has been developing its drone program for over a decade, aiming to deliver packages within 30 minutes. Challenges include slow progress, layoffs, and testing setbacks.

The drones include the MK30 model, designed to be quieter and fly in light rain. Noise complaints from College Station residents have led Amazon to plan relocating its drone hub later this year.

Amazon’s drone tests have also seen crashes, including a significant one in Oregon this February.

The company said these incidents are part of the testing process and unrelated to the recent suspension. It aims to deliver 500 million packages annually by drone by the end of the decade.
