Amazon is planning a second round of job cuts as early as next week, expected to be roughly the same size as last year’s reduction of about 14,000 corporate employees, according to sources.

The layoffs are part of a broader effort to cut nearly 10% of its corporate workforce, affecting units such as AWS, retail, Prime Video, and HR.

The company previously cut around 14,000 jobs in October, about half of its initial 30,000 target, and has not publicly commented on the upcoming plans.

CEO Andy Jassy said the layoffs are driven by company culture and bureaucracy, not financial pressure or AI-related reasons.

The October cuts followed internal restructuring, with employees given 90 days to find other roles internally.

The layoffs represent a small share of Amazon’s 1.6 million global workforce.
