Amazon plans $25b bond sale for AI expansion
Amazon plans to raise at least US$25 billion through an eight-part US bond sale to support its AI expansion.
A filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on July 7 said the proceeds would go to general corporate purposes, including investments, future capital spending, and debt repayment, but did not disclose the size of the offering.
The fundraising comes as Amazon has guided for about US$200 billion in 2026 capital spending, after spending about US$131 billion in 2025.
CEO Andy Jassy said most of the spending is for Amazon Web Services capacity and related AI infrastructure.
As of March 31, 2026, Amazon held about US$143 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities. Its long-term debt stood at US$119.1 billion, up from US$65.6 billion at the end of 2025.
Moody’s in March revised its outlook on Amazon to positive from stable while affirming its A1 senior unsecured rating, citing improved operations, strong liquidity, and the company’s capacity to support higher AWS and generative AI investment.
Amazon told underwriters it would not issue more debt this year, according to people familiar with the matter.
Earlier in 2026, it raised about US$54 billion in bonds in the US and Europe, followed by US$10 billion in Canada in June.
