Amazon mistakenly alerts AWS staff to planned layoffs via email

Amazon mistakenly alerted some AWS employees about planned layoffs through an internal email on January 27, ahead of an official announcement.

The email, signed by AWS senior vice president Colleen Aubrey, incorrectly said that affected staff in the US, Canada, and Costa Rica had already been informed.

Amazon has said it plans to cut up to 14,000 jobs globally, mainly in corporate roles, with a focus on leveraging AI.

After the email was sent, a scheduled team meeting for January 28, was canceled, and the company did not confirm details of the layoffs or comment further on the incident.
