Amazon joins $310m funding for AI startup Odyssey

Odyssey, a US-based AI startup building world models that simulate real-world environments, said on June 17 that it raised US$310 million in a series B round . The funding led by Natural Capital at a US$1.45 billion valuation.

Amazon, GV, AMD Ventures, EQT, and IQT joined the round. Existing investors include Jeff Dean, Elad Gil, Qasar Younis, Kyle Vogt, and Garry Tan.

Odyssey was founded by CEO Oliver Cameron and CTO Jeff Hawke in 2023. They previously worked on self-driving technology. The company develops AI systems that stimulate real-world environments.

Odyssey said Amazon Web Services would become its preferred cloud provider. It also said it was working with Amazon’s Annapurna Labs to optimize its models on AWS Trainium chips. The two companies planned to collaborate on research and commercial efforts.

The arrangement resembles Amazon’s earlier Anthropic partnership, which also paired equity with AWS and Trainium commitments.
