Amazon India takes on Flipkart with zero-fee expansion
Amazon India said it will eliminate referral fees on over 12.5 crore (125 million) products priced under 1.000 rupees (US$10,97) effective March 16, 2026. The expansion covers more than 1,800 categories.
Amazon said sellers could reduce referral costs by up to 70%, cut Easy Ship logistics fees by over 20% for items below 300 rupees (US$3,29), and get a discount exceeding 90% on selling fees for second units in multi-item packages.
The move aims to improve operational efficiency and profitability for small businesses in Tier II and III cities.
Flipkart in November 2025 extended zero-commission terms to items under 1.000 rupees (US$10,97).
Amazon’s marketplace operator reported an 89% narrowing of net loss to 374.3 crore rupees (US$41.04 million) for the year to March 31, 2025, with revenue rising 19% to 30.139 crore rupees (US$3.30 million).
