🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ India’s fragmented healthcare market creates opportunity for tech integration

Amazon’s diagnostics launch reflects a strategic opportunity in India’s highly fragmented healthcare sector, particularly in the $15 billion diagnostics market 1.

This fragmentation has historically created inconsistent patient experiences across pharmacy, consultation, and testing services, with patients typically navigating separate providers for each healthcare need.

By integrating diagnostics with its existing pharmacy (launched 2022) and teleconsultation services (launched six months ago), Amazon is addressing this fragmentation through a comprehensive “connected care ecosystem” 2.

This approach mirrors successful healthcare integration models in other markets where companies have combined multiple services to streamline patient journeys rather than optimizing individual touchpoints.

Amazon executive Jayaramakrishnan Balasubramanian specifically highlighted this strategy, noting that “diagnostics closes the outpatient loop by connecting testing with doctor consultation and medicine delivery” 1.

2️⃣ Tech giants view healthcare as long-term strategic investment

Amazon’s commitment to invest over $233 million in India operations in 2025 signals that healthcare represents a significant priority within its broader strategy 2.
