Amazon will expand automation and advanced inventory systems at its fulfilment centers in India, Amazon Robotics Chief Technologist Tye Brady said in London, as the company adds robots across its logistics network and points to broader investment plans in India.

Brady said Amazon already uses systems in India including SLAM (scan, label, apply, manifest) labelers, an automated outbound system that scans parcels, checks package data, and prints and applies shipping labels.

He said Proteus is now used in the US and is being introduced in Europe.

Asked about India, Brady said Amazon would expand its use of robotics over time but gave no timeline for deploying Proteus in the country.

Amazon has separately tied Proteus to a 10 billion euros (US$11.6 billion) investment in its European fulfilment network.

The company said it has invested US$40 billion in India and plans to invest another US$35 billion by 2030, though Brady did not link that broader figure specifically to fulfilment automation.

Brady also said excessive early regulation of AI could slow innovation, while adding that companies deploying the technology must remain accountable.
