Amazon began offering Alexa+ Early Access in India on September 17 through eligible Echo and Fire TV devices, as well as the Alexa app.

Browser access at alexa.com will come later.

At launch, Alexa+ supports English, Hindi, and Hinglish.

It can switch languages within a request and handle tasks such as shopping, music, schedule management, email, and smart-home controls.

Amazon said more integrations will roll out later.

These include EazyDiner for restaurant bookings, Swiggy for food delivery and dining reservations, District by Zomato for event and dining reservations, MakeMyTrip for travel bookings, Home Triangle for home services, and TripAdvisor for travel planning.

Alexa+ is free during Early Access. After that, Amazon plans to keep it free for Prime members.

For Prime Lite and Prime Shopping Edition members, and non-Prime users, access will not renew automatically.

Amazon said these users will be able to subscribe for 2,000 rupees (US$21) a month or get access through a Prime plan.

The rollout also raises privacy questions. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act covers digital personal data and requires consent to be free, specific, informed, unconditional, and unambiguous for processing that data.
