AltStore, a third-party app marketplace in the EU, raised US$6 million in series A funding led by Pace Capital, which took a 15% stake.

Founded by Riley Testut and Shane Gill, the New York-based startup will use the funds to grow its team and expand into Australia, Brazil, and Japan.

Following the EU’s Digital Markets Act, AltStore has added over 100 developers to distribute apps outside Apple’s App Store.

AltStore’s main app, Delta, remains its top offering, while new partners like Epic Games have brought Fortnite and other games to the platform.

The company has also entered the adult content market with “Hot Tub,” the first iOS pornography app.

Flipboard CEO Mike McCue joined the board, and AltStore plans to launch a Mastodon server with US$500,000 in funding for open social web projects.
