Alphabet to sell $3.5b bonds in Europe to fund AI, cloud
Alphabet is issuing at least €3 billion (US$3.5 billion) in euro-denominated bonds, marking its second multi-tranche offering in Europe this year.
The sale includes six tranches with maturities from three to 39 years, according to a source familiar with the deal.
The three-year tranche is being marketed at about 60 basis points over mid-swaps, while the longest is at around 190 basis points.
Alphabet is raising funds to support increased spending on AI and cloud infrastructure.
Earlier this year, the company raised €6.8 billion (US$7.96 billion) in its European market debut.
The bond sale follows a quarter where Alphabet saw Q3 sales rise to US$87.5 billion and reported higher demand for its cloud and AI services.
The company expects capital expenditures for 2025 to reach US$91 billion to US$93 billion.
Pricing is expected later today.

Implications, context, and why it matters.
Alphabet sells euro bonds for AI and cloud capital expenditures (capex)
- Alphabet plans at least €3 billion in euro bonds to fund US$91–93 billion 2025 capex, with the 3-year tranche (a slice of the deal with a set maturity) pitched around 60 basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percentage point) over mid-swaps (a benchmark from the interest-rate swap market).
- Q3 sales reached US$87.5 billion on stronger cloud and AI demand. It is building up to six data centers in Iowa 1, a new West Memphis site in Arkansas 2, plus a planned US$15 billion AI and data center hub in India 3.
- Unlike past tech cycles, the debt funds physical infrastructure that can earn revenue over time. The longest 39-year tranche is around 190 basis points over mid-swaps.
Data center and renewable developers can pursue Alphabet’s expansion plans
- Infrastructure suppliers and contractors can bid in Iowa 1, Arkansas 2, plus India 3. The West Memphis campus spans 1,000+ acres with thousands of construction jobs 2.
- Renewable developers can partner in Andhra Pradesh (an Indian state) on new transmission, clean generation, and storage 4. Watch Iowa, where Google funds a water study near the Duane Arnold site (the former Duane Arnold nuclear plant) 1, with any nuclear restart not expected before 2028 1.
- Tech investors can look for second-order winners. The India hub’s new subsea cable landing station (a coastal facility where undersea internet cables connect to terrestrial networks) 3 creates demand for fiber optic and telecom equipment providers.
