🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Independent benchmarks needed to verify Gemini 3’s edge
- Google says Gemini 3 tops 19 of 20 tests, with an 11-point lead over GPT-5.1 on Humanity’s Last Exam (a broad general-knowledge and reasoning test) and about 40% better factuality 1. It also claims a 2 to 3x edge on ARC-AGI 2, a benchmark for fluid intelligence and reasoning (a standardized test of abstract pattern recognition and problem-solving) 1, which needs outside confirmation.
- Third-party tests were mixed 2. Gemini 3 won six of nine head-to-head tasks against ChatGPT-5.1 with creative or analytical prompts 2, yet the gap in daily use looks smaller.
- Analysts call Gemini 3 a strong competitor, not a clear leader [News Article]. Reviewers say only power users need to upgrade 1.
AI Overviews drive demand for traffic fixes
- For queries with AI Overviews (Google Search’s AI-generated summary boxes at the top of results), organic click-through rates fell 61% to 0.61% and paid CTR slid 68% to 6.34% by September 2025 3.
- Losses hit news and media by 26 to 55% 4, health by 20 to 35% 4, and education where Chegg saw a 49% drop 4. Expansion ran fastest in entertainment, restaurants, and travel, which raises risk there 5.
- Being cited in AI Overviews drives measurable Return on Investment (ROI) 3. Cited brands get 35% more organic clicks and 91% more paid clicks than uncited rivals 3. About 92.36% of AI citations come from top 10 domains, so Search Engine Optimization (SEO) still anchors strategy 5.
