Alphabet CEO pay package may be worth $692m
Alphabet has structured a three-year pay package for Sundar Pichai, CEO, that could be worth up to US$692 million, with most of the award tied to performance and new stock incentives linked to Waymo and Wing, according to a filing first seen by the Financial Times.
The FT said the package could put Pichai among the highest-paid executives if performance targets are met.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders, have drawn separate attention for recent high-value property purchases in Miami, widely seen as a response to California’s proposed Billionaire Tax Act, the Financial Times reported.
Bloomberg estimated Pichai and his wife held roughly US$500 million in Alphabet shares and had sold about US$650 million worth as of summer 2025.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Alphabet’s board has tied parts of its CEO’s pay to Waymo and Wing valuations
- Alphabet linked up to $350 million of sundar pichai’s pay to per-unit values for Waymo (Alphabet’s self-driving car business) and Wing (Alphabet’s drone delivery business).
- He can earn up to $260 million based on Waymo’s per-unit value plus $90 million tied to Wing’s, as set by Alphabet’s compensation committee 1.
- The filing says these efforts have moved past “moonshot experiments” and now sit as businesses meant to grow in value 2.
CEO pay is being used to incentivize long-term innovation
- The structure connects long-range bets to compensation, even when profit may take years.
- By tying awards to internal per-unit values for these “Other Bets” (Alphabet’s non-core businesses outside its main Google ads and services), Alphabet nudges leadership to build measurable asset value before profitability 2.
- Other tech giants could use a similar model to support ambitious research and development (R&D) and track momentum through one measure, internal per-unit value.
