StepFun and Alipay said at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai on July 17 that they had formed a system-level partnership.

It lets users access AI-powered everyday services on Alipay’s Ah Bao through StepFun’s AI agents, using Alipay’s Agent Hub-Access system.

In a demo, StepFun’s Amoo agent on the StepX Neo smartphone handled a request to find a nearby electric vehicle charger and order coffee to the user’s home.

It activated charging and coffee agents on Ah Bao, and generated an order for confirmation.

The deal gives StepFun access to Alipay. StepFun is a Shanghai-based foundation model company founded in 2023 that raised several hundred million dollars in series B funding in December 2024.

Alipay launched Ah Bao in June as part of a broader shift to make the app AI-native.

The app lets users access more than 10,000 services through conversation rather than app navigation.

Alipay has said payments and other financial actions still require confirmation from users.
