Tourism Malaysia, the Malaysian government’s tourism promotion agency, and Alipay+, Ant International’s cross-border wallet gateway, signed a memorandum of understanding in Kuala Lumpur to expand cross-border payments and AI travel services under the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign.

The plan includes Alipay+ Voyager, which Ant described as an AI travel companion that sits inside partner wallets and super apps.

Tourism Malaysia also plans an AI-powered travel subsidy program that offers benefits for accommodation, transport, and attractions through the AI agent.

Ant International said more than 600,000 Malaysian merchants received payments from Alipay+ partner wallets and bank apps in the first half of 2026.

It also said traveler spending through DuitNow, Malaysia’s national QR payment network, rose by more than 60%.

The official Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign targets 47 million tourist arrivals and 329 billion ringgit (US$80.5 billion) in receipts.

The partnership builds on Malaysia’s cross-border QR setup, which already lets visitors pay local merchants using payment apps from their home countries.
