Alipay+ launches cross-border QR payments in Kyrgyzstan
Alipay+, Ant International’s cross-border payment gateway, and Interbank Processing Center (IPC), Kyrgyzstan’s national payment system operator, launched international quick response (QR) payments in Bishkek on June 4.
The move lets users of IPC’s ELCARD Mobile app pay overseas through the Alipay+ merchant network, with support from the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The rollout aligns with Kyrgyzstan’s push to strengthen digital payment infrastructure and cross-border payments.
IPC, a subsidiary of the central bank, serves millions of domestic cardholders through the ELCARD system.
The feature is part of Kyrgyzstan’s main national payment network, not a niche app, because ELCARD is widely used across the country’s banking and retail payments system.
The partnership also reflects Alipay+’s effort to link domestic payment systems to its cross-border QR network.
It previously partnered with Uzbekistan’s HUMO to enable payments for HUMO users abroad, and a Bahrain collaboration is due in 2026.
Ant International said Alipay+ connects more than 2 billion user accounts through 50 payment partners to more than 150 million merchants across 220 destination markets, including through more than 10 national payment schemes.
