Alibaba’s new Qwen3-Omni multimodal AI model has reached the top spot on Hugging Face’s trending list, overtaking models from OpenAI and Google as of September 29.

Alibaba, a major Chinese tech firm, launched the Qwen3-Omni series in April, offering capabilities across text, images, audio, and video.

A variant, Qwen3-Omni-30B-A3B, is currently the most popular model on Hugging Face, followed by Alibaba’s Qwen-Image-Edit-2509.

The company’s open-source AI models accounted for half of the top 10 trending models on Hugging Face, alongside offerings from Tencent, DeepSeek, and OpenBMB, with only IBM representing Western firms.

Self-reported benchmark data from Alibaba claims Qwen3-Omni outperformed earlier versions and rival systems in audio, image, and video tasks, though these results have not been independently verified.

According to the ATOM Project, Alibaba’s Qwen series surpassed Meta’s Llama as the most popular open AI model globally in September.
