Alibaba said Amap’s new destination ranking feature reached 400 million users one month after launch.

Amap, with 895.5 million monthly active users in June 2025, is China’s fourth-largest mobile app by user numbers.

The new feature, Amap Street Stars, uses AI to rank restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions.

Alibaba aims to challenge Meituan, which runs the Dianping restaurant rating app, while Meituan is also adding AI for consumer reviews.

Meituan launched a “quality food delivery” service, offered subsidies to 10,000 small restaurants during China’s National Day holiday, and saw its shares drop 30% this year as Alibaba’s rose 128%.
