Alibaba’s 1688 backs exporters’ pivot with AI tools, waived fees
Alibaba’s B2B platform 1688 has rolled out a support package for Chinese manufacturers shifting from exports to domestic sales.
The initiative includes five measures aimed at easing operational stress for factories facing overseas order declines. These include helping sellers offload excess inventory by matching them with domestic buyers and waiving related commission fees. The platform will also offer loans to help businesses maintain stability during the transition.
To further support exporters entering China’s internal market, 1688 will waive three months of platform fees. The platform is also making all of its AI-powered tools free to use. These tools assist with product listings, pricing strategies, and customer engagement—features that can lower the entry barrier for manufacturers new to domestic ecommerce.
1688’s move comes as more Chinese suppliers explore internal demand amid weakening global trade sentiment and increased US tariffs on Chinese goods. The company said it aims to help affected sellers find new footing through tech enablement and policy support.
