Alibaba upgrades Taobao on-demand delivery to compete with rivals
Alibaba Group has launched Taobao Instant Commerce to enhance delivery speed and offer subsidies to consumers, strengthening its market position in China.
This new service targets time-sensitive products like electronics, clothing, and flowers, competing with JD.com and Meituan in China’s competitive ecommerce market.
Currently available in 50 cities, Taobao Instant Commerce is set to roll out nationwide by May 6, 2025.
Orders are managed by Ele.me, Alibaba’s food delivery platform, streamlining operations for quicker deliveries of essential goods.
The service aligns with Alibaba’s strategy to integrate its online marketplace with its delivery network, utilizing Ele.me and Freshippo to fulfill orders.
This puts Alibaba in direct competition with Meituan and strengthens its logistics infrastructure.
