Alibaba unveils HappyShrimp AI song generator in China
Alibaba Group Holding launched HappyShrimp 1.0, a beta AI music model in China that turns text prompts into full songs.
It generates melodies, arrangements, lyrics, and vocals, and supports user-submitted lyrics.
The launch extends Alibaba’s AI efforts under CEO Eddie Wu, who has set up a group technology committee focused on AI after earlier reshuffles elevated cloud computing and AI as core businesses.
The company said HappyShrimp will work with Taihe Music Group, a music company based in China, on artist co-creation and content development.
Taihe runs record labels, publishing, distribution, ticketing, and live entertainment businesses in Chinese-language music.
The rollout comes before China’s AI content-labeling rules take effect on September 1. The rules require metadata for AI-generated audio and explicit labels in some cases, including some music-generation scenarios.
Tencent Music already offers text-to-song tools on QQ Music and has warned of unresolved copyright and licensing risks around AI-generated content.
